Williamsford Ontario
This week I took the time to visit Wiliamsford Ontario a short fifteen minute drive from our bed & breakfast.
The cafe has a very interesting menu and many choices, while there I had their ham and cheese, and it was a generous sandwich, on thick slices of fresh baked multi grain bread. There are selections for the vegetarian in the group and their coffee is organic in origin. On Friday, they serve evening meals that borders on the gourmet in nature. The day I visited they were serving venison as the meal with meat. The vegetarian meal was a grilled porcini mushroom This Thursdays visit (I went back again for breakfast) Fridday'sevening fare for the vegetarian was a grilled onion blossom. for the non vegetarian it was Georgian Bay whitefish. The prices range from 18.95 for the vegetarian meal and for the meat lover it is 24.95 http://www.greatbooks.ca/
The chef Matt Louwman is young experienced and enthusiastic to try new dishes such as kangaroo (quite a leap from Georgian Bay.) he does go out and buy produce on a daily basis and organic is used when ever possible. The meal is four courses, salad, soup, entree, and dessert.
This week I took the time to visit Wiliamsford Ontario a short fifteen minute drive from our bed & breakfast.
Williamsford borders the North Saugeen River. on highway 6.
Williamsford Pie Company is a truly interesting and unique place, they are a bake shop, although they have scone's and bread and other baked goods they concentrate on pies of many types and they have become quite renowned for their baking in the area. People come from all over Ontario to buy their pies. At the time of my visit, there were people leaving the bake Shop with several boxes of pies.
The owner Laura Sider has owned the company for two years and can be reached at laurawpc@gmail.com or phone her at 519-794-2034
They serve light lunches and of course baked goods for dessert. I couldn't resist buying one of Cheryl's favourite pies, a fresh peach pie. ( I try to earn brownie points any where I can.
I then drove a few hundred feet south on highway 6 to one of the most interesting properties in the area, the old Williamsford Mill, straddling the part of the North Saugeen River occupied by the Great Books Cafe .
If you enjoy reading and browsing book stores, looking for the unique or different book, this is the place to visit, certainly every genre is covered and with over 70,000 volumes of new and used books, you would be hard pressed not to find something of interest.
Owned by Peter and Tamara Bolton , they are no strangers to the book industry, owning an independent book store by the CBC, in Toronto and in Newmarket, Ontario. If you enjoy reading and browsing book stores, looking for the unique or different book, this is the place to visit, certainly every genre is covered and with over 70,000 volumes of new and used books, you would be hard pressed not to find something of interest.

Chesley is well placed as a central area to stay as you explore the Bruce or the Grey County areas.
Every drive to a destination is filled with breathtaking scenes that makes driving there, a pleasure.

The area has one of the few pristine trout fishing rivers in the Saugeen River and is a mere short drive to the fishing spots and is a favourite for not only the beginner fly fisherman but for the experienced fisherman as well.
